In today’s non-stop world, the thought of being able to turn off cell phones, disengage from the Internet and take a break from our jobs and our responsibilities might seem welcome. A few days to break free from the hustle and embrace silence can be just what the doctor ordered.

But what if a few days became a few weeks or a few months? What if your ability to “choose” silence and isolation became something forced? Could you go weeks, even days, without seeing someone you love…or simply anyone at all?

For most of us, we couldn’t. And yet, this is the very tragic reality for too many of our home-bound neighbours: the elderly and incapacitated population in Greenville County who may go a week or more without human contact.
